New Cath Lab Enhances Hospital’s Capabilities for Diagnosing and Treating Heart
and Peripheral Vascular Conditions
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – (September 29, 2005) – Now, more than ever, Delray Medical Center has “heart.”
Delray Medical Center, recipient of the HealthGrades 2005 Cardiac Care Excellence Award, has unveiled a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab to enhance the medical excellence already provided by the hospital and its staff. Cardiac catheterization is a non-surgical procedure used to detect and treat problems in the heart, and this new lab featuring the latest technology not only offers diagnostic and interventional capabilities for the heart, but also diagnostic and interventional treatment for peripheral vascular disease.
The new cath lab, one of three cardiac catheterization labs available at Delray Medical Center, replaces the hospital’s oldest one.
“We are proud to offer the latest technology in cardiac and peripheral vascular disease treatment to everyone in our community and surrounding area,” said Mitch Feldman, CEO. “Our new cardiac cath lab will further augment our commitment to provide high quality, award-winning health care for the residents of South Florida.
Delray Medical Center’s new GE Innova 3100 all-digital, cardiovascular and peripheral vascular imaging technology, provides physicians with excellent visualization of important vessels – even those outside the heart. This new equipment allows physicians to efficiently perform an array of diagnostic and interventional procedures, all in one room and on one system.
According to Feldman, the new cath lab technology will enhance the physician’s ability to accurately size and place stents, to more easily measure their success in opening clogged arteries, and feel more confident about their diagnosis. Additionally, the radiation dose now needed to obtain the images has been greatly reduced – an added benefit for the patients.
“This is a whole new arena for cath labs,” Feldman notes, “because we can now visualize vessels outside the heart and diagnose underlying vascular problems. The fine detail and range of applications we now have will help our physicians treat more diverse patients with cardiovascular as well as peripheral vascular conditions.”
