Delray Medical Center Announces Governing Board Officer and New Board Members

Delray Beach, Florida - Delray Medical Center is pleased to announce officers for the coming year and the appointment of new members to the governing board, which oversees the hospital.  The new chairman of the board is Richard Milgrim, MD, a gastroenterologist.  New members are Alan Zelcer, MD, a private practice cardiologist and medical director of the cardiac catherization lab; Sam Mathis, vice president of diversity, Office Depot, Inc.; and Nathan Rosen, a retired attorney and insurance executive.  Zelcer, Mathis, and Rosen will serve two terms of four years each.

 

·        Richard Milgrim, MD, a member of the Delray Medical Center staff since 1983, is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.  He received a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University, and a medical degree from the State University of New York.  He trained in internal medicine, and completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Long Island College Hospital.  Dr. Milgrim is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.  He served as the director of the gastroenterology and endoscopy services at Delray Medical Center from 1996 to 2002, and was previously chief of the department of medicine. He has served on the governing board as a physician member since 1997.

 

·        Alan Zelcer, MD, a member of the Delray Medical Center staff since 1988, is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology.  He received a bachelor's degree with honors from Cornell University, and a medical degree from New York University Medical School, where he was elected to the AOA honor medical society.  He trained in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Bellevue/NYU Medical Center, and completed a fellowship in cardiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Zelcer is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Coronary Angiograpy and Intervention.  He served as chairman of the special care/intensive care unit committee, and was previously on the credentials committee, and the radiation safety committee. He has also served on the department of medicine committee for several years.

 

·        Samuel E. Mathis, Jr., vice president of diversity, at Office Depot, Inc., is responsible for assisting Office Depot in becoming a more diverse workplace internally and strengthening these efforts in other communities nationwide.  Formerly of Darden Restaurants, Mathis, an architect, was promoted to director of design and construction at Darden Restaurants, Inc. and then appointed to their board of trustees.  Mathis was a member of the board of directors at the Edgewood Children's Ranch and Heath Central Community Hospital in Orlando, appointed by the Governor. In 1991, Samuel was a founding class member of Central Florida YMCA, adult black achievers.

 

·        Nathan Rosen, Attorney at law, has an extensive background in law and insurance serving as president and chairman of the board of directors of Cosmopolitan Mutual, a major property and casualty insurance company in New York. Rosen was listed in "Who's Who in Insurance" in 1970. In addition, Rosen practiced law in Hallandale, Florida for 10 years and was retained by the Hallandale City Council, which led to the implementation of the city self-insured liability plan. Rosen was then appointed by the Hallandale City Council as chairman of its civil service board. To date, Rosen is retired and resides in Boynton Beach, serving as vice president of Indian Spring master association and other community organizations.
