25-Year Volunteer
Twenty-five years ago, Arlene Levine and her husband moved from Connecticut to South Florida.
After the move, Arlene's husband had to visit Delray Medical Center for a minor procedure. While attending to her husband, Arlene noticed the consideration and empathy each nurse and doctor showed him. After he was released, Arlene decided to start volunteering at Delray.
She volunteered her time every Monday through Friday. Her husband thought she was crazy. He would ask Arlene, "Why do you work for nothing?" Arlene simply replied that she did not work for money, but for the way volunteering made her feel. She explained the satisfaction and appreciation she received while volunteering at Delray.
Arlene has volunteered at Delray for 25 years. With her husband passing six years ago and her children living across the country, Arlene calls Delray "her anchor" for treating her like family.
