Delray Medical Center Receives Highest Honors

May, 2004

Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) announced today that Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla., led by Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Feldman and his administrative team, has been selected to the company’s 2004 Circle of Excellence.

Tenet’s annual Circle of Excellence award recognizes the winning hospitals’ accomplishments in a number of different areas and is intended to honor the teamwork, collaboration and cooperation that are required to operate a successful hospital.  Hospitals are evaluated based on such factors as high ratings for patient satisfaction, consistency of the hospital leadership team, proven success at overcoming difficult challenges, and financial performance.

“Through the hard work and dedication of its leadership and staff, Delray Medical Center has become a role model for other Tenet hospitals and an essential part of the health care community in the area it serves,” said Reynold Jennings, Tenet’s chief operating officer.  “Under Mitch’s leadership, Delray strives to provide preeminent medical care for its patients, as well as excellent working conditions to attract and retain the best employees.  Delray Medical Center is thoroughly deserving of Tenet’s highest award.”

Feldman, Chief Operating Officer Laura Cillo, Chief Financial Officer Ralph DeCerbo, and Chief Nursing Officer Karen Bibbo helped maintain Delray Medical Center’s continued tradition of excellence this past year.  The hospital made Solucient’s Top 100 Hospitals list for the third consecutive year and was recognized for its distinguished clinical excellence by HealthGrades.  Both are health care research companies.  Additionally, Delray’s heart center was named one of the top 50 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report magazine.  The leadership team also oversaw a 31-bed addition to the hospital’s cardiovascular intensive care unit, as well as a significant increase in employee satisfaction.

Tenet’s divisional and regional executives nominate candidates for the Circle of Excellence from the hospitals they supervise. Winners are selected based on both objective criteria, such as patient, physician and employee satisfaction scores, and subjective evaluations.

Delray Medical Center, part of Tenet South Florida, is a 372-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, Fl.  The community-based hospital, nationally recognized for award-winning health care, has been serving the medical and health care needs of south central Palm Beach County for over 20 years.  Delray Medical Center, a state-designated Level II Trauma Center for adults and children, offers a broad range of specialized services, ranging from acute care to rehabilitation to psychiatric services to outpatient care.  In 2003, the hospital was rated among the top 50 hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for heart surgery and has been recognized by HealthGrades, a leading health care rating group, as among the top five percent of all hospitals in the nation for cardiac services and among the top 15 percent in the nation for knee replacement surgery.  In 2003 and for the second year in succession, a health care industry study conducted by Solucient, a leading health care information company, named Delray Medical Center to the list of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals for achieving excellence in quality of care, efficiency of operations and sustainability of overall performance.  The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.  To learn more about Delray Medical Center, visit www.delraymedicalctr.com
