Hospital Earns Accolade For Outstanding Clinical Performance, Ranked Among Top Five Percent Nationwide

For the second consecutive year, Delray Medical Center has been recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades®, a leading independent healthcare ratings company.

The HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals designation, presented last year for the first time, is the only national hospital quality rating based solely on clinical outcomes. It recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated superior clinical quality over an eight-year period.

For 2008, the honor is based upon an analysis of tens of millions of Medicare patient records from 1999 through 2006. Delray and the 49 other hospitals honored this year have achieved higher survival rates and lower complication rates, not just in one or two clinical specialties, but across 27 different medical procedures and diagnoses, from cardiac care to orthopedic surgery, consistently ranking among the top five percent in the nation for overall clinical outcomes.

"The Delray staff is dedicated to providing exceptional care. Our consistently strong performance in clinical quality outcomes is a reflection of the special attention this hospital and the people who are its 'face' provide to patients every day," explained Robert Krieger, CEO.

"Having the latest technology at our fingertips 'raises the bar' for the standard of treatment that those in our community can expect when they are under our care."

Recipients of HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals were selected by identifying hospitals across the country that also have received the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical ExcellenceTM the most consecutive times from previous years through 2008.

Delray has received this prestigious national quality award from HealthGrades annually since 2003 -- six years in a row.

In its most recent clinical study, issued on Jan. 31, HealthGrades analyzed tens of millions of Medicare patient records from 4,971 hospitals over a three-year period (2004-06).

HealthGrades found that patients admitted to Distinguished Hospitals, such as Delray, are, on average, 27 percent more likely to survive and five percent less likely to have a major complication. HealthGrades also estimates that if all patients were treated at Distinguished Hospitals, 171,424 lives could have been saved and 9,671 post-operative complications could have been avoided during the three years studied.

This is consistent with Distinguished Hospital studies conducted in previous years. In addition to its clinical excellence, Delray's cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic and gastrointestinal services consistently have been recognized in HealthGrades studies.

The hospital has been ranked among the top five percent in the nation for overall cardiac services for seven years in a row, receiving HealthGrades 2007 Specialty Excellence Awards in Cardiac Care and Cardiac Surgery.

Delray Medical Center, part of Tenet's Palm Beach Health Network, is a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. The community-based hospital has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for 25 years. Delray Medical Center, a state-designated Level II Trauma Center for adults and children, offers a broad array of specialized services-, ranging from acute care to rehabilitation, and psychiatric services to outpatient care.

In 2008, Delray Medical Center was recognized for the second straight year as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, a leading national health care quality group, and received HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for the sixth consecutive year. In 2005 and for the fourth year in succession, Solucient, a leading health care information company, listed Delray Medical Center as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals.

The hospital also was honored with the prestigious Tenet Circle of Excellence award for outstanding performance; the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce's 2005 Business of the Year award; and its Cardiac Program was named 2005 Hospital-Based Program of the Year by the South Florida Business Journal.

Delray Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.

DALLAS – April 12, 2007 – Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) announced that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has been appointed a director by the company’s board. He becomes the board’s tenth member.
Bush, 54, was elected Florida’s governor in 1998 and retired in January 2007, after completing two successful terms in office. While governor, he was instrumental in pursuing state tax cuts, reforming the state educational system and restructuring state health care programs. “We are honored that Gov. Bush has agreed to join our board,” said Edward Kangas, the non-executive chairman of Tenet’s board. “Tenet will greatly benefit from his broad knowledge of health care and his deep experience with government and regulatory issues. His wisdom and compassion are a perfect complement to our strong, independent board.”
Gov. Bush said, “As I have researched Tenet, I have been very impressed by the company’s commitment to improving patient care as well as the board’s commitment to strong corporate governance and transparency. I care deeply about the future of health care in this country, and I’m delighted to be affiliated with Tenet, a leading company in this field.”
Former Sen. J. Robert Kerrey (D-Neb.), chairman of the nominating and corporate governance committee of Tenet’s board, said, “All of us on the board are delighted that former Gov. Jeb Bush has chosen Tenet as the first corporate board he will join since leaving office. I believe his decision to join us reflects the real strides the company has made in recent years to build a solid foundation for future growth based on integrity and quality.”
Trevor Fetter, Tenet’s president and chief executive officer, said, “Gov. Bush was a successful, hands-on chief executive of a very large and diverse state. Florida is Tenet’s second largest market, and his counsel and advice on our board will be invaluable to me and to our hospital managers.” Gov. Bush was born in Midland, Texas, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies. After graduation, he worked in various positions at Texas Commerce Bank in Houston and in Venezuela. He and his family moved to South Florida in 1980, where he worked as a real estate executive. He began his political career in 1986 as chairman of the Dade County Republican Party. After an unsuccessful campaign for Florida governor in 1994, he formed a non-profit think tank to help influence public policy in the state before winning the governorship in 1998. Gov. Bush will stand for election by shareholders to a one-year term as director at Tenet’s annual meeting, which will be held in Dallas on May 10. The company will amend its recently filed proxy statement and mail supplemental information and new proxy cards to its shareholders to add Gov. Bush to the list of director nominees. Tenet Healthcare Corporation, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates acute care hospitals and related health care services. Tenet’s hospitals aim to provide the best possible care to every patient who comes through their doors, with a clear focus on quality and service. Tenet can be found on the World Wide Web at www.tenethealth.com. # # #

Some of the statements in this release may constitute forward-looking statements. Such statements are based on our current expectations and could be affected by numerous factors and are subject to various risks and uncertainties discussed in our filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including our annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended Dec. 31, 2006, our quarterly reports on Form 10-Q and periodic reports on Form 8-K. Do not rely on any forward-looking statement, as we cannot predict or control many of the factors that ultimately may affect our ability to achieve the results estimated. We make no promise to update any forward-looking statement, whether as a result of changes in underlying factors, new information, future events or otherwise.

The new technology offers Delray Medical Center surgeons real-time, 3-D images, as well as multi-plane, 2-D and fluoroscopic imaging.

“The O-Arm provides our surgeons with a view of the patient’s anatomy in the operative position and enables them to monitor the status of the surgery, verify implant placement and surgical changes with a 3-D image without the patient ever leaving the surgical suite,” said hospital CEO Robert Krieger.

The O-Arm was designed to be used in standard operating rooms. Its electromechanical features enable the O-arm to be re-positioned easily between imaging shots, giving the surgeon easy patient access. The expected benefit of using these high-quality images during surgery is that patients undergoing procedures may experience less invasive surgeries, faster recovery times, a decreased risk for return to surgery and improved outcomes. The hospital will be using this technology for spine, neurosurgery, orthopedic and ENT procedures.

Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for more than 20 years.

Delray Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, a leading independent healthcare ratings company.

The new 50 Best Hospitals designation recognizes hospitals that demonstrated superior clinical quality over seven years, based upon analysis of tens of millions of Medicare patient records from 1999-2005.

These hospitals have achieved better survival rates and lower complication rates across dozens of medical procedures and diagnoses, from cardiac care to orthopedic surgery, consistently ranking among the top five percent in the nation for overall clinical outcomes.

“Delray’s staff is dedicated to providing exceptional care. Our consistently strong performance in clinical quality outcomes is a reflection of the special attention this hospital provides to patients every day,” explained CEO Robert Krieger.

“Having the latest technology at our fingertips helps us ‘raise the bar’ for the standard of treatment our community can expect.”

Recipients of HealthGrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals were selected by identifying hospitals across the country that have received the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical ExcellenceTM the most consecutive times from previous years through 2007. Delray has received this prestigious national quality award from HealthGrades annually since 2003.

In addition to its clinical excellence, Delray’s cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic and gastrointestinal services have consistently been recognized in HealthGrades’ studies. The hospital has been ranked among the top five percent in the nation for overall cardiac services for seven years in a row, receiving HealthGrades 2007 Specialty Excellence Awards in Cardiac Care and Cardiac Surgery.

Delray has repeatedly received five-star ratings for the following procedures and diagnoses:
· Coronary Bypass Surgery
· Valve Replacement Surgery
· Cardiac Interventional Procedures including angioplasties and stents
· Treatment of Heart Attack
· Treatment of Heart Failure
· Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation
· Hip Fracture Repair Surgery
· Back & Neck Spinal Fusion Surgery
· Treatment of Community Acquired Pneumonia
· Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
· Treatment of GI Bleeds.

Quality has become a mandate in healthcare and HealthGrades launched this new award to be responsive to consumers’ demand for information about the quality of care. The award is unique in that it can only be achieved through outstanding clinical excellence maintained over time.

Sustained quality excellence does not happen by “chance.” In working with hospitals throughout the nation, HealthGrades found that clinical leaders establish a culture of quality, in which there is an expectation and ownership of excellence from the CEO’s office through every other individual within the organization. The organization also has found that people are more likely to have successful treatment without major complications, on average, at hospitals in this category.

Delray Medical Center has added digital mammography to its comprehensive diagnostic services dedicated to women and the early detection of breast cancer. This new equipment incorporates advanced imaging technology that provides sharp images and provides high quality care. Digital mammography allows the radiologist to view the x-ray image more closely, meaning they can zoom in on suspicious or concerning areas and make immediate decisions as to whether additional images are needed. Although a digital mammogram is like a traditional film-screen exam in that it uses x-rays to generate images of the breast, it takes less than half the time of traditional exams and allows the radiologist to review the images while the patient is still in the examination room. “Our goal is to provide exceptional care to the women of our community,” explained Robert Krieger, CEO of Delray Medical Center. “Digital mammography allows us to deliver even more advanced, personalized care to our patients in the fight against breast cancer.” Digital mammography offers a number of other practical advantages and patient conveniences. Because there is no waiting for film to be developed it can reduce the time patients spend in the breast center, as well as reduce the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics demonstrate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s survival.

Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for more than 20 years.

Delray Medical Center CEO Robert Krieger today announced the hospital’s cardiovascular care teams are exceeding the national 90-minute door-to-balloon goal for coronary intervention. The results were achieved through implementation of the American Heart Association’s Get With The GuidelinesSM (GWTG) program.

“Since August, 100% of the patients who met the defined American College of Cardiology criteria received percutaneous coronary intervention within 90 minutes of arrival at Delray Medical Center,” Krieger said. “In fact, the average time has been 61 minutes. That means we are saving more lives every day.”

Delray Medical Center began participating in the Get With The GuidelinesSM program in 2002 as a means to demonstrate the hospital’s commitment to quality cardiovascular care. Implementing GWTG helps ensure that the care provided to our cardiovascular patients is consistent with the latest evidence-based medicine.

Introduced in 2000, GWTG helps hospitals close the gap between recommended treatment and actual treatment of heart patients. Hospitals implementing the quality improvement program generally see measurable results.

Recently at an American Heart Association meeting, a study was released detailing many effective but underused strategies that can substantially improve care for heart attack patients. The American College of Cardiology (ACC), in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), introduced a new program to address these issues. The new campaign titled “Door-to-Balloon” calls for all hospitals that provide emergency coronary interventions to meet the goal set in the 2004 ACC/AHA guidelines. Research demonstrates that if the time from a patient’s arrival at the emergency room to the time the patient has their blocked artery opened with an angioplasty balloon can be reduced to 90 minutes or less, the patient’s chances for survival and a better recovery increases greatly.

As a part of GWTG, hospitals commit to follow evidence-based guidelines, enter and track key performance measures, identify areas for opportunities to improve care, and implement changes to achieve desired performance. This proven process directly impacts the ability to shorten door-to-balloon time.

Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for more than 20 years.
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – (September 2006) – Delray Medical Center has been lauded for its participation in an unprecedented national initiative, the 100,000 Lives Campaign, which saved an estimated 122,300 lives across the country.

The landmark 18-month Campaign, initiated by the nonprofit Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in December of 2004, challenged U.S. hospitals to save 100,000 lives through the implementation of six proven health care interventions. More than 3,000 hospitals joined the campaign – representing an estimated 75% of U.S. hospital beds.
“The results of this joint effort clearly demonstrate the value of an initiative such as this,” said Karen Bibbo, RN, Director of Nursing at Delray Medical Center. “As a result, Delray Medical Center will continue to employ these life-saving interventions.”
Hospitals participating in the Campaign agreed to implement one or more of six evidence-based interventions. Delray Medical Center implemented all six:
· Activate a Rapid Response Team at the first sign that a patient’s condition is worsening and may lead to a more serious medical emergency.

· Prevent patients from dying of heart attacks by delivering evidence-based care, such as appropriate administration of aspirin and beta-blockers to prevent further heart muscle damage.

· Prevent medication errors by ensuring that accurate and continually updated lists of patients’ medications are reviewed and reconciled during their hospital stay, particularly at transition points.

· Prevent patients who are receiving medicines and fluids through central lines from developing infections by following five steps, including proper hand washing and cleaning the patient’s skin with “chlorhexidine” (a type of antiseptic).

· Prevent patients undergoing surgery from developing infections by following a series of steps, including the timely administration of antibiotics.

· Prevent patients on ventilators from developing pneumonia by following four steps, including raising the head of the patient’s bed between 30 and 45 degrees.

“The participating hospitals have not only prevented an estimated 122,300 unnecessary deaths, but they have also proven that it’s possible for the health care community to come together voluntarily to rapidly make significant changes in patient care,” said Dr. Berwick, President and CEO of IHI.
He added, “I have never before witnessed such widespread collaboration and commitment on the part of health care leaders and front-line staff to moving the system giant steps forward.”

IHI expects to announce plans at its National Forum in December for the next stage of this health care improvement initiative. In the interim, the national community of Campaign participants will redouble its efforts, committing to fully spread the Campaign’s improvement interventions throughout each participating facility and enact plans to sustain gains in performance. Simultaneously, IHI will work with expert groups and high-achieving facilities to explore new areas for hospital improvement that will be introduced in the next phase of the Campaign – complete with a new, ambitious aim for saving lives.

Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for more than 20 years.

Delray Medical Center announced today it has been ranked number one in Florida for overall cardiac and cardiology services, according to a comprehensive study released by HealthGrades, a leading independent healthcare ratings company. Additionally, the hospital ranks among the top five percent in the nation for overall cardiac services, heart surgery, cardiology services, and interventional procedures including angioplasties and stents for the third year in a row. Delray Medical Center is a three-time recipient of HealthGrades Cardiac Care Excellence Award™ and also received the 2007 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award™. The annual study rates hospitals on a five-star scale. Delray Medical Center received five-star ratings for: Coronary bypass surgery Valve replacement surgery Coronary interventional procedures Treatment of heart attack Treatment of heart failure Treatment of atrial fibrillation Treatment of GI bleed Treatment of community acquired pneumonia Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Treatment of sepsis Hip fracture repair surgery Back and neck surgery (spinal fusion) “It takes a total team effort for a hospital to earn this level of distinction,” said Karen Bibbo, R.N., Director of Nursing for Delray Medical Center. “It requires a sharp focus on medical excellence day in and day out.” As part of its ninth annual Hospital Quality in America Study, HealthGrades independently analyzed more than 5,000 hospitals in all 50 states and the District of Columbia for its 2007 ratings, objectively assessing their clinical outcomes and quality. The 40 million hospitalization records utilized in the assessment are publicly available and licensed from the federal government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The HealthGrades ratings take into account varying degrees of patient severity from hospital to hospital and measure whether patient outcomes for each of more than two dozen procedures and diagnoses are better than expected (5-Star), as expected (3-Star) or worse than expected (1-Star). “HealthGrades objectively assesses and rates hospital performance in order to help consumers make better and more informed healthcare choices,” explained Samantha Collier, M.D., HealthGrades vice president of medical affairs. “With consumers having a greater stake in their healthcare purchasing decisions, it’s important for them to know that there is a tremendous difference in clinical quality outcomes between hospitals.” “In Delray Beach, Delray Medical Center stands out notably in terms of delivering quality care for its cardiac, orthopedic, GI, pulmonary and critical care patients,” Collier added. “Patients, families and employers here truly have access to healthcare that is among the best in the nation.”

The 2007 HealthGrades ratings for all hospitals nationwide are available, free of charge, on the organization’s award-winning consumer Web site, located at www.healthgrades.com. More than three million individuals and employees of 125 major employers and health plans visit HealthGrades each month to access quality information about hospitals, nursing homes and physicians. HealthGrades also provides consumers and payers with detailed assessments of hospitals’ patient-safety outcomes, based on indicators developed by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Delray Medical Center, a 493-bed acute care hospital located at 5352 Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, has been serving the health care needs of south and central Palm Beach County for more than 20 years.
