If you have persistent, non-healing wounds as a result of diabetes, poor circulation, burns, surgery or trauma, our Wound Treatment Center is here for you. Our interdisciplinary approach provides patients with a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan using some of the latest available techniques for wound healing. Physician specialists and experienced nurses provide a personalized plan of care, complete with lifestyle counseling and prevention education.
Located on the Delray Medical Center campus in Palm Court Plaza, we offer easy accessibility and a team of experts with years of experience in wound treatment.
Risk Factors
There are many factors that lead to the development of non-healing wounds, including:
- Decreased blood flow to the legs and feet
- Diabetes
- Immobility
- Incontinence
- Neuropathy (burning, tingling or lack of sensation in the feet)
- Poor nutrition
- Smoking
Signs & Symptoms
Common signs and symptoms that may accompany non-healing wounds and indicate that you may need our specialized services are:
- A wound that does not heal after several weeks
- Excessive swelling of the leg that accompanies an open wound
- An open, draining wound
- Pain or redness around the wound site
- Pain with walking or numbness and tingling in the feet
Conditions That May Require Treatment
- Any wound that fails to improve with standard treatment
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Lower leg ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Osteomyelitis
- Post-operative infections
- Slow or non-healing surgical wounds
- Skin tears or lacerations
Types of Treatment
Wound debridement is done in order to remove devitalized tissue and provide wound healing.
- NPWT (negative pressure wound therapy)
NPWT is a system that uses controlled negative pressure to help promote wound healing.
Compression boots are used to treat leg and foot ulcers that result from conditions such as venous insufficiency and stasis.
Skin substitutes are used to support wound closure and serve as a replacement for skin grafting.
