What Are They Going Through?

You might not always understand what your loved one is dealing with since each person reacts in his or her own way to illness and pain. To better understand how they feel and how you can best help them, follow these recommendations:

Listen. Don’t push your loved one to talk about how he or she is feeling, but be available for when he or she is ready to share.

Learn.  Get educated on your loved one’s condition or procedure, and ask his or her medical professionals when you’re unsure of the situation.

Be present. While an illness can be overwhelming for both you and your loved one, stay available and attentive as much as you can. No gesture is too small.
