Dr. Jonathan Vafai discusses Damar Hamlin and cardiac arrest

Jan 16, 2023
On Monday night, Buffalo Bills safety Demar Hamlin went for a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin at first appeared okay, standing up.  Immediately, he collapsed backwards, appearing lifeless.  We would later learn his heart stopped.  He received CPR and defibrillation on the field, which got his heart pumping again, getting badly needed oxygen to his brain. The game was suspended as everyone’s focus turned to Hamlin’s health, who has been at an area hospital ever since.

Dr. Jonathan Vafai, a cardiologist on staff at Delray Medical Center, was featured on both CBS 12 News and WPBF 25 News discussing what we were able to learn from the horrifying video and the likely cause of Hamlin’s cardiac arrest.

Video is from WPBF 25 News.
