Repeat Rehabilitation Brings Patient Relief

Enid Appelbaum, rehab patient, Delray Medical Center, Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital

Enid portraitEver since Enid Appelbaum was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), she has suffered numerous falls and has become familiar with various rehabilitation centers in the area. It didn’t take long for her to realize that Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital at Delray Medical Center stands in a class of its own.

“My first experience at Pinecrest occurred a few years ago when my leg gave out, and I fell and shattered my arm,” Enid says. “Every person I came into contact with from the nurses, to the physical therapists and doctors, to the nutritional staff, were beyond helpful and kind to me.”

Enid felt the care she received was so top-notch, that when she fell again and injured her knee, she chose to undergo surgery at Delray Medical Center.

Dr. Robert Zann, an orthopaedic surgeon on the medical staff, performed Enid’s surgery. Although she couldn’t initially walk, wash or dress herself, she was excited about the prospect of returning to Pinecrest.

“Once again, the doctors, nurses and staff treated me with the utmost care and respect,” Enid says. “Regardless of what I needed, they always found a way to be accommodating and make sure I felt comfortable and at ease.”

After intensive three-hour therapy sessions each day with her occupational and physical therapists, she was soon well enough to go home.

“At that point, I no longer needed to stay at Pinecrest full-time, but I still had several months of outpatient therapy ahead,” Enid says. “I am confident that I will continue progressing and overcome the challenges of living with MS. The doctors, therapists and staff at Pinecrest are like a second family to me, and I will never choose to go anywhere else.”
