Dr. Joseph Ricotta completes 350th TCAR procedureJan 29, 2024
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Dr. Joseph Ricotta, National Medical Director of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy for Tenet Healthcare and Professor of Surgery and Program Director of the vascular surgery fellowship at Florida Atlantic University School of Medicine Delray Medical Center, recently completed his 350th Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedure. In 2018, Dr. Ricotta performed the first TCAR procedure in South Florida.
TCAR is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat carotid artery disease, which occurs when plaque buildup narrows the arteries that supply blood to the brain. The TCAR treatment introduced a safer and more efficient approach to remove the plaque from the carotid artery, allowing normal blood flow to the brain.
"Performing 350 successful TCAR procedures displays our team's commitment to providing state of the art treatment for patients with carotid artery disease and prevents stroke. It gives us the unique ability to offer all available treatment options to people in need, including TCAR, carotid stenting, surgical carotid endarterectomy, and medical management under one umbrella. Being able to provide this life-saving treatment is extremely humbling,” Dr. Ricotta said.
In 2020, Dr. Ricotta received the national TCAR Clinical Operator of Excellence distinction, awarded by Silk Road Medical, the manufacturer of the TCAR device. Select physicians earn this accolade by performing the TCAR procedure to treat patients with carotid artery disease with superior outcomes and clinical excellence.
Dr. Ricotta, who has more than 20 years of experience in the field, has earned consistent recognition as a National Top Doctor by Castle Connolly and has written over 300 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.
